Best Nightlife In Maui: A Guide To Things To Do After Dark

Best Nightlife In Maui: A Guide To Things To Do After Dark

Maui is known for its warm ocean and beautiful beaches, green plush mountain terrain, and impressive wildlife, as well as its intriguing history and beautiful mahalo (gratitude) culture.

Maui is divided into five distinct regions. South Maui, home of the famous Wailea Beach. West Maui, where popular Kaanapali Beach and Lahaina Village are located.  And then there is the infamous road to Hana which showcases the coast of East Maui.  Fourth on the list is Upcountry, where one will experience Maui’s rolling hills and misty mountains on the way to Haleakala. And last, but not least, Central Maui, where we find Lao Valley State Park, plenty of hiking, and the city of Kahului, which is the largest city on Maui (the airport is here), and home to the Queen Kaahumanu Center, the largest shopping mall on Maui.

Maui offers an abundance of outdoor activities such as traditional surfing and windsurfing, sailing and whale watching, golfing, hiking, ziplining, horseback riding and of course snorkeling alongside sea turtles and a wonderful variety of jaw-dropping glow-in-the-dark fish. After an exciting day of activities and adventures, you will want to be sure to continue on to enjoy Maui’s vast array of options for a great evening out! We have put together the following list of some of our top suggestions for you to consider when exploring the best nightlife in Maui.

1.  Enjoy Nightlife With Live Entertainment, Bars & Restaurants

So what are the things to do in Maui at night? The nightlife in Maui provides a diversity of live entertainment experiences, be it a bar-style live band or an internationally acclaimed touring performing arts group. And no matter what type of experience you seek, Maui has everything to offer.

While most of the popular hotels and condos are either in Wailea or the west-end of the island in Lahaina and Kaanapali, much of the night life is centered in Kihei, which is about 30 minutes north of Kaanapali, and where the locals hang out as well as well-informed tourists. Kihei Kalama Village, which is known to locals as “Barmuda Triangle”, or just “The Triangle”, is an area in Kihei where most of the bars and restaurants are tucked in close together, and often in walking distance of each other. Here are all the highlights:

Nightlife on maui: Enjoy Live Entertainment, Bars & Restaurants

Haui’s Life’s a Beach: 1913 S Kihei Rd – The Locals call it the LAB. If you love an intimate atmosphere and want to enjoy sipping your Mai Tai with some Reggae playing in the background, then you must head on over.  They have live music and is “the” spot to go for Karaoke. Grab a bite, play games, and watch the sunset from the lanai. This is one of the cheap things to enjoy in Hawaii. Super cheap happy hour!

Three’s Bar and Grill: 1945 S Kihei Rd Suite G – This restaurant and bar are thought to have the best food in the Triangle, and therefore the waitlist to get a seat can be quite the wait. Catch their happy hour for more elbow room and great appetizer and drink prices.

Lava Rock Bar and Grill: 1945 S Kihei Rd Suite H – open-air bar and restaurant on the second floor, and the only bar in Kihei with an ocean view! The largest dance floor in the triangle, a billiard room, and 18 screens to watch your favorite sporting event.

Mulligans On The Blue:  How about adding some Irish flavor to your Hawaiian experience? Well, look no further! Mulligans is Maui’s only Irish-owned and operated Irish pub serving traditional Irish beers and pub fare, with live music and beautiful sunset views. If you are looking for a more chill vibe and want to avoid the party scene, this is the perfect spot! They have a fantastic diverse menu and are vegan friendly. INSIDER TIP: You will need to make reservations if you want to be seated in the eye-view of the band.

Dog and Duck Irish Pub: 1913 S Kihei Rd – Another Irish pub, this establishment is a cozy and down-to-earth spot, with a mix of a tropical island and the mossy green of Ireland vibe. Full menu, TV’s turned to ESPN, and Thursday night is their popular Trivia Night.

Stargazing at Haleakala National Park: Haleakala is one of the world’s largest dormant volcanos, and offers a magnificent setting for stargazing, as it is elevated and out and away from city lights. You can choose to select from one of many guided tours, one of which includes a 60-minute telescope tour, or simply head out on your own to join the many others enjoying nature’s beautiful skyscape!

INSIDER TIPS:  While the summit area can be quite warm during the day, depending on the weather, the temperature can drop quickly when the sun goes down! Proper preparation can make or break a stargazing trip, so keep the following pointers in mind: Bring layers, including a hat or hooded sweatshirt, long pants, and warm shoes. Bring something to sit on to get the most out of your experience, and consider a blanket so you can lay down to gaze straight up. Give your eyes time to adjust to the darkness and turn off all white lights to enjoy one of the best nightlife in Maui.

If possible, orient yourself to the sky with a printed star chart or use an app on your phone. Be sure to stay on paved and established roads, and of course pack out any trash, you bring. And last, when driving up to the park, be sure to drive slowly as wildlife often will cross the road. Being there are no lights on the roads in this area, creatures can get disoriented when lights suddenly appear.
